Available Seminar Artwork

All seminars are 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break. With each seminar I provide a packet with full instructions, line drawings, full color worksheets and photos for each student and paint/products used in the seminar. I will bring the sample of the project with me; I do not send it on ahead.

Project Title: Irises in Oval Mat

Skill Level: Intermediate

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: Design is painted on 11” x 14” matboard and is framed with an 11” x 14” custom grey oval mat with an 8” x 10” opening.  Student also has choice of surface as long as it fits the size of the design. I can provide the mat set for $14.50 if desired.

Skills to be taught: Learn to paint a Contemporary Multi-load irises and leaves.  With a bit of practice, students should then be able to paint the flowers on any surface they choose as the focus of the seminar is to learn the technique to be able to use it beyond the seminar project.

  • ½” or 5/8” angle shader
  • #5 stiff round drybrush
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette – small Handy Palette preferred for class

Project Title: Blue Floral Contemporary Multi-load Bouquet

Skill Level: All levels, suitable for Beginners

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: 8" x 10" matboard basecoated in flat black acrylic paint and 11" x 14" black mat with 8" x 10" oval opening. Students can provide their own surfaces or I will provide for $11.50 per set. Frame not included.

Skills to be Taught: Learn to paint Contemporary Multi-load style blue flowers, pink rosebuds, yellow filler flowers and a variety of leaves. Student should then be able to paint the various flowers on any surface they choose (with a bit of practice, of course!) as the focus of the seminar is to learn the technique to be able to use it beyond the seminar project. The corner mat design is included for students to paint the custom mat at home to coordinate with the painting and for further practice.

Project Title: White Rose on Black with Double Mat

Skill Level: Intermediate

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: Design is painted on 11” x 14” black matboard and is framed with an 11” x 14” custom double Taupe and Black oval mat with an 8” x 10” opening.  Student also has choice of surface as long as it fits the size of the design. I can provide the mat set for $14.50 if desired.

Project: Shaded Wash Red Roses

Length of Seminar: 1 day

Surface: 16” x 20” matboard. Actual design is larger than shown here matted.

Skill Level: All

Medium: Acrylics

Skills to be taught: This technique resembles soft, sepia-toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with acrylics. Learn to create depth and form before adding any color. Linework and floating/glazing techniques are part of the focus.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • #8 sable round
  • 5/8” and ¾” angle shaders
  • 5/0 script liner
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette
  • Grey graphite (wax-free)

Project Title: Shaded Wash Blue Morning Glories on Long Box

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: 5”x16” metal box with wooden lid available from Painters Paradise or students can paint on any surface they choose that fits the dimensions basecoated in DecoArt’s Bleached Sand.

Skills to be taught: This technique resembles soft, pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with acrylics, two script liners and an angle shader.  Learn to create all depth with one color.  Linework and floating techniques are part of the focus.

Special Products Needed for the Seminar:

  • Margot’s Miracle Brush or #3 round sable suitable for watercolor
  • ½” or 5/8” angle shader
  • 5/0 and 10/0 script liners
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette – small Handy Palette preferred for class

Project Title: Shaded Wash Pansy Box

Skill Level: All levels, also suitable for beginners

Length of Seminar: 1 full day- day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: 5” x 16” wooden lid (comes with metal tray, patterns may vary) from Painters Paradise or students can paint on any surface they choose that fits the dimensions. Basecoated in any light beige background color.

Skills to be Taught: This technique resembles soft, sepia-toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with brushes and acrylic paints. Learn to create depth and form with only values of brown. Linework and floating techniques are part of the seminar focus.

Special Products Needed for the Seminar:

  • ½” angle shader with sharp chisel edge
  • 5/0 and 10/0 script liners (long bristles)
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette (small, 8 ½” x 7” size preferred for class)

Project Title: Shaded Wash Golden Glow Roses

Skill Level: All levels, also suitable for beginners

Length of seminar: 1 full day- day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics and Magic Metallics

Surface: 11” x 14” mat board basecoated in 1:1 combination of Magic Metallics Brass and Gold and 11” x 14” black mat with 8” x 10” oval opening. Students can provide their own or I will provide for 11.50 per set. Frame not included.

Skills to be Taught: This technique resembles soft, sepia-toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with brushes and acrylic paints. Learn to create depth and form with only values of brown. Linework and floating techniques are part of the seminar focus. Create the real, metal coated patinaed mat with Magic Metallics metals and patinas.

Project Title: Pear with Patinaed Mat

Skill Level: All levels, suitable for Beginners

    Medium: Acrylics, Magic Metallics

Surface: 11" x 13" mat board basecoated in Delta's Raw Linen and 8" x 10" black mat with 5" x 7" rectangle opening. Student's can provide their own or I will provide for 10.50 per set. Frame not included.

Skills to be Taught: This technique resembles soft, sepia-toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with brushes and acrylic paints. Learn to create depth and form with only values of brown before adding washes of color. Linework and floating techniques are part of the seminar focus. Create the real, copper patinaed mat and separate vase with Magic Metallics metals and patinas.

Project: Is it Real or is it Faux?

Length of Seminar: 1 day

Surface: 8” x 10” black mats with 5” x 7” openings and 8” x 11” mat boards painted black

Skill Level: All

Medium: Magic Metallics Real Liquid Metals and Pen and Ink

Skills to be taught: Seven different finishes will be taught, some are real and some are Faux with real metals, along with some freehand pen and inking. Some techniques are finished as is and some can be used as backgrounds. Sample boards can then be easily stored for future reference.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • Mats
  • Matboard
  • Waterproof fine line black pens
  • Old brushes

I provide: Packet with full instructions and photos. I will also supply Magic Metallics for the day of the seminar. I will bring samples of the projects with me.


Project: Faux Mother-of-Pearl with Scrollwork

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: 5”x16” metal box with wooden lid available from Painters Paradise or students can paint on any surface they choose that fits the dimensions basecoated in black.

Skills to be taught:
This technique features the creation of Faux Mother-of-Pearl. Linework techniques are part of the focus.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • ½” angle shader
  • 5/0 or 10/0 script liner
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette
  • White graphite (wax-free)

Project Title: Watercolor Acrylic with Pen and Ink

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics and Ink

Surface: Frosted Glass Oval 8” x 5” and watercolor paper. I can provide the glass for 8.50 each. Price includes shipping.

Skills to be taught: This technique resembles watercolor washes but is done entirely with acrylics.  First the painting will be created on the watercolor paper.  The inking is done on top of the frosted glass and then the painting is placed behind the glass.  Student may choose to ink both the painting and the glass for a different look.
